Will Battle

Wednesday I took Red to the vet for her yearly checkup.

Unsurprisingly, she's gained weight.  A half a pound to be exact.  That was a lot less than I expected, but still, she's looking very Fatty Patty.  So on the advice of the vet, I have decided to see if I can help her svelte up for summer.

I did some research on food puzzles for cats.  Everything I found looked ridiculously easy and I was not sure how that would help.

Last night we put a puzzle into action.

Now I know how this is going to help her slim down.

She won't play.

OK, well, I would normally insert a picture here, but for some reason, I can't upload them today.  You'll have to take my work for it.

She just spent about half an hour staring disapprovingly at her puzzle.  She walks up to it, sniffs it, then stares pleadingly at me.  She is up here now pushing me to pet her and feel how thin she is.  She's starving to death!  (It's been like ten hours.)  She's very good at drama.

She goes downstairs and irritates Agmorion, who is a notorious soft touch.  Only he won't help her either.

We are firmly locked into a battle of wills here.   I wonder who will win...  Twelve pounds of Red?  Or considerably more pounds of mean cat-mommy.  I think if she would just ask the Kraken if the odds are in her favor, the food would disappear out of the puzzle!

I do feel a little bad because I know she is hungry.  But it's not that hard, she is just refusing to dig the food out.

Poor Blue.  He's hungry too, but he's either retarded or showing solidarity.  He won't stick his paw into the hole to get the food out either.

Oh, wait...  he's at the bowl...  he found a crunchy on the floor and is eating it...  Will he get more??  I doubt it, he's looking at me sadly.  Now he's walking away.

Stupid boy.

Oh my God!  Red wandered over there and is ACTUALLY digging food out of the puzzle!  She keeps looking at me to make sure I am not seeing her!  (I am watching her in a mirror.)  She's doing it!!!!  Now if only Retarded Boy will do the same!

Once he gets more comfortable with it, the plan is to make or buy (or both) a couple more puzzles so I can switch it up and they won't get too complacent with them.

Who knows, maybe by summer, Red will be fitting into her bikini!

So that's the trick huh? I will be buying puzzles this weekend to hide my chocolates...maybe if the effort to dig them out is too much, I too, will shed some weight. What's good for one cat should be good for this cat too.
